MONROVIA–A former employee of the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) and current Representative of District #1, Montserrado County, Honorable Rugie Yatu Barry, has challenged women working at LEC to aspire beyond traditional administrative roles and position themselves for technical and operational leadership within the institution.

Speaking on Friday, January 16, 2026 at the induction ceremony of the newly elected leaders of the LEC Female Workers Union (FEWLEC) held at Monrovia City Hall, the Lawmaker described the occasion as a moment of renewed hope, responsibility, and purpose for women in the corporation.

Recalling her own experience as a former customer service agent at LEC; then known as the Consumer Assistant, the guest speaker expressed pride in the progress made by female staff over the years and acknowledged veteran employees who continue to contribute to the growth of the corporation.

Addressing the newly inducted leadership, Hon. Barry congratulated them on their election and reminded them that leadership is a call to service rather than title. She urged the new leaders to prioritize transparency, accountability, integrity and transformative leadership emphasizing that their success will be measured by the positive impact they have on the lives and careers of the women they represent.

Turning her attention to female employees, particularly younger women, the Montserrado County District #1, Representative challenged them to broaden their ambitions and prepare themselves for technical and operational leadership roles. She expressed hope that, in the future, women would serve in key technical positions such as Transmission and Distribution Manager or Deputy Managing Director for Operations, stating that competence and excellence are not defined by gender. She commended the few women currently serving as technicians and linesmen and encouraged them to continue building their skills and capacity.

Concluding, Hon. Barry called on the new leadership to remain united, noting that division weakens advocacy while unity amplifies collective voices. She also appealed to LEC management and stakeholders to support women’s advancement, stating that when women rise, institutions rise.
