MONROVIA–The Keynote Speaker at the 61st anniversary of the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) has urged journalists in Liberia to strive for excellence in their reportorial duties.
Madam Josephine Krumah=Resident Representative of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission in Liberia said the media must be objective and not subjective.
“The media’s lack of objectivity in its reporting is hampering free speech,” Krumah said. She added, “You create the platform for misinformation and disinformation.”
Speaking at the PUL’s 61st anniversary celebration, the ECOWAS Representative to Liberia stressed the need for improvement in the media. “The building does not define who you are; start now and rebuild the future with excellent reports,” she noted.
Giving the Anniversary message, PUL President Julius Kanubah challenged journalists to report ethically. Kanubah said ethical reporting is the bedrock of journalists noting that such is essential for nation’s growth.
The celebration brought together Liberian Journalist from across the country and key stakeholders from both the private and public sectors.
Mr. Kanubah in her message, called on all journalists in the country to work collectively in ensuring that the union’s headquarters is built.
