Monrovia-In fulfilment of its international obligations and as a demonstration of leadership to the global maritime body, Liberia has once again paid its full due payment to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for the year 2026. The payment made is a testament of Liberia’s steadfast commitment to supporting the work of the IMO in funding and facilitating sustainable projects in ensuring research, technical assistance through capacity building and institutional improvement in an effort to ensure safe, secure and efficient shipping on cleaner oceans.
Presenting the mock cheque in honor of Liberia and on behalf of His Excellency President Joseph Nyumah Boakai Sr., Liberia’s Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organization in London, The United Kingdom, Ambassador Robert Kpadeh conveyed warm greetings and gratitude from the President, the Authority of the Liberia Maritime, and the people of Liberia, and assured the Secretary General H.E. Arsenio Dominiguez of Liberia’s unwavering commitment to remain prompt in its regular due payment for the advancement of the Secretary general’s mission and vision for the forward march of the Organization.
Permanent Representative Kpadeh thanked the Secretary General Dominiguez for his stellar leadership in steering the affairs of the global UN body effectively and efficiently, especially in these times of immense global challenges and technological transformation.
“In the quest to advance International shipping to higher heights, for the good of humanity, Liberia will continue to be a highly supportive and reliable member state of the IMO”, Permanent Representative Kpadeh stated.
He further assured the Secretary General that Liberia will continue to work hand in hand with the IMO and other affiliated organizations to ensure that shipping and other maritime activities are governed in an enviable fashion.
Ambassador Kpadeh lamented that as a leading flag registry, Liberia sees it as a moral responsibility to continuously set the pace for other Member States to follow in pursuit of excellence.
Liberia’s significant contribution to the work of the IMO amounting to 5,527,138.00M British Pounds which converts to about US$7.4M represents a mark of incredible and responsible leadership as a Council member sitting on Category A of the IMO and the only African nation serving on the prime decision-making platform.
Moreover, Liberia’s payment comes in timely, especially at this point in time when the West African nation is once more campaigning to maintain her seat on the IMO Council for the 2026/2027 biennium. This, in all fairness, sends a resounding message to collaborating Member States and affiliated organizations that Liberia remains a dependable partner and leader in the maritime industry.
