Monrovia-December 2, 2925: The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) has reported significant strides in its efforts to combat corruption across the country. The announcement was made in Monrovia by Minister Daniel O. Sando, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Information, during a progress briefing held recently.
Minister Sando said the LACC has fully verified 55 asset declarations, covering the 2018-2020 period, marking the fourth cycle of the national assets’ declaration regime. The verification process, he noted, is a critical step toward ensuring transparency and compliance among public officials.
On investigation and enforcement, the LACC has completed 20 corruption-related cases, issuing seven indictments. The cases include, former President De La Boche, Icon Vocational Institute, Triple RSC, Buffalo Yellow Machine, National Watch Consortium and LUCAS University
Minister Sando further revealed that two convictions have already been secured. The total monetary value of all cases investigated amounts to US$6.5 million plus US$17.99 million, totaling more than US$24 million in recoverable assets.
In the area of prevention and public education, the LACC conducted 70 social accountability exercises, trained and deployed 70 volunteers across six counties, and provided anti-corruption training to more than 100 investigative journalists. Awareness programs have also reached 12 counties. However, Minister Sando noted that regional LACC offices have been identified but remain non-operational due to funding constraints.
Looking ahead to 2026, the Commission plans to, establish specialized Anti-Corruption Courts, digitize the national assets declaration system, fully operationalize regional offices, expand citizen reporting and whistleblower mechanisms.
Minister Sando emphasized that the presidential asset declaration compliance rate of 81.8% demonstrates leadership by example and reflects the administration’s commitment to good governance. He added that the LACC remains steadfast in intensifying its enforcement efforts as part of Liberia’s broader accountability agenda.
