Cuba condemns US military attack in Caribbean Sea

MONROVIA–Cuba has strongly condemned the United States’ recent deployment of military forces in the Caribbean Sea, calling it a “serious threat” and an “aggressive show of force” against the sovereignty and self-determination of Latin American and Caribbean nations.

A statement issued in Monrovia by its Embassy this week said  the deployment of the US military around 4,000 troops, primarily marines in Latin America and Caribbean waters is unwelcoming.

The statement said, “Cuba’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has rejected this deployment, stating that it ignores the region’s commitment to being a “Zone of Peace” and is instead an attempt to impose dominance through force.

The statement further accuses the US of using false pretexts to justify its actions, pointing out that the US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) did not mention the Venezuelan government in its report on drug trafficking operations threatening the US.”

The deployment has raised concerns about regional stability, with Cuba calling for an international mobilization to prevent aggression and preserve peace in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Cuba’s government has been vocal about its opposition to US military actions in the region, seeing them as a threat to regional peace and stability. They’ve also emphasized the need for respectful and constructive dialogue grounded in sovereign equality and without exclusions.

The US deployment has strained relations between the US and Latin American countries, with many criticizing the move as an attempt to reassert US dominance in the region. Cuba’s president, Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, has called for firm denunciation of these “new imperialist shows of force”
