The Ministry of Finance and Development Planning has officially kicked off the Revenue Budget Hearings as part of preparations for the Fiscal Year 2026 national budget.
The hearings come on the heels of weeks of Expenditure Hearings, during which government ministries and agencies presented and defended their spending plans for the upcoming fiscal year.
At Monday’s opening session, Acting Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Hon. Anthony G. Myers, described the hearings as an annual exercise aimed at evaluating how the government can mobilize resources to fund its operations.
He explained that revenue-generating entities use the platform to share projections, identify challenges, and discuss strategies for meeting their revenue targets.
The hearings are vital for shaping a realistic and credible national budget,” Hon. Myers said, adding that the Ministry remains committed to an open and participatory budgeting process.
He stressed that the input from revenue agencies is crucial for financing Liberia’s development priorities in FY 2026.
Among the key participants were the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA), the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NAFAA), and the Liberia Agricultural Commodity Regulatory Authority (LACRA).
Each entity presented its revenue outlook, highlighting both opportunities and challenges in achieving their goals.
Observers noted that the Revenue Hearing is a critical step in the budget process, offering technical and policy guidance to ensure a balanced budget that aligns with the government’s medium-term development agenda.
Officials said the process also fosters institutional collaboration, promotes transparency, and enhances public confidence in Liberia’s budgeting system.
