OCTOBER 22, 2025-PLEEBO, MARYLAND COUNTY: A tragic scene unfolded in the Zone 11 Community located in the Total Freedom Belt of New Pleebo when a young man identified as James N. Appleton believed to be between 20 to 25 years old was discovered dead after allegedly committing suicide.
According to community dwellers, the incident is believed to have occurred around 10:00 a.m., but the lifeless body of Appleton was not discovered until about 1:00 p.m. when most students were returning home from school.
Family sources told reporters that the late Appleton-a father of two children, had been living with his uncle in the Zone 11 Community. He reportedly took his own life inside his bedroom without leaving behind any note or message explaining the motive behind his action.
The gruesome discovery was made by his younger sister who had just returned from school and entered the room to change her uniform. Upon seeing her brother hanging from the ceiling, the terrified girl immediately ran to alert her mother and other relatives, drawing the attention of neighbors and community members.
Following the discovery, residents of the area quickly informed the Liberia National Police (LNP) and local medical personnel who arrived on the scene to examine and document the situation.
The police have since launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding Appleton’s death and whether foul play may have been involved.
At the time of this report, the body of the deceased remains at his uncle’s residence in Zone 11 where family members and neighbors have gathered to mourn the loss.
According to family sources, burial arrangements are expected to take place on the morning of October 23, 2025.
The tragic incident has left the entire community in shock with residents expressing sorrow and concern over the rising number of suicide cases among young people in the district.
Local authorities have urged residents to seek counseling and community support when facing emotional or psychological challenges instead of resorting to self-harm.
