Vahun To Get City Status

-As District Representative Submits Bill

Lofa County District two Representative, Julie F. Wiah wants a city status ascribe to Vahun Town. The lawmaker has meanwhile submitted a Bill to the plenary of the House of Representatives seeking their permission.

In a communication to that august through its speaker, Bhofal Chambers, Rep. Wiah told her fellow lawmakers that Vahun which was created since the regime of late president William R. Tolbert has served as the headquarters of the District.

The female lawmaker indicated that the place which has been in existence for many years and has the population which is required to have city status needs to be given a city status.

According to her, the town has a high school, magisterial court, health center administrative building, police station, market hall and a vacation school under construction.

She noted that with the ongoing developments in Vahun Town, she is hopeful that members of the 54^th Legislature see reason to pass the draft instrument into law.

Moreover, the Lofa District #2 Lawmaker added that the draft legislation when passed into law will enable the area to benefit from health center, administrative building, police station, market hall and a vacation school, high school, magisterial court among other facilities that other cities are benefiting from.

According to our legislative reporter, the plenary of the House of Representatives saw reason to forward the request made by the Lofa District #2 lawmaker to its committee on Internal Affairs, Judiciary, and Ways, Means Finance and Development Planning to report within the time period of one week for the plenary to take decision as to whether or not the draft legislation will go through.
