-As MICAT Begins Preparations
The Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) has embarked on the preparations leading to the hosting of “Miss Liberia 2019-2020” beauty pageant.
Addressing the Ministry of Information regular press briefing recently, MICAT Deputy Minister for Culture and Tourism, Lance Gbagonyon, said the 2019 beauty pageant will focus on decentralization, adding: “Most often the queens have been selected from only Monrovia.”
According to Gbagonyon, the queens this year will be selected from the 15 counties of Liberia on an audition basis, noting: “If you are interested in representing your county in the Miss Liberia beauty pageant, you can participate in the audition in your county when our team goes there.”
He pointed out that two queens will be selected from each county out of which 15 will participate in the grand final.
“Application forms will be out next week and will be sold for L$1,000 so you can get it from MICAT, Ministries Gender; Youth and Sports and Internal Affairs, and at the superintendent’s office in the counties.
Gbagonyon pointed out that MICAT has constituted a National Steering Committee which comprises the Ministries of Information, Gender and other institutions.
He indicated that the steering committee has short-listed three organizations to serve as organizers of the event.
He explained that the pre-requisite to contest in the pageant is being a natural born Liberian, 18-27 years old and having national identification and voter’s registration cards and a passport.
Gbagonyon indicated that the prize of the competition is being determined by the steering committee and will be made public in the local dailies when decided. TNR
