MONROVIA-The Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Information cultural affairs and tourism (MICAT) classified those allegedly killed during Tuesday, November 23, 2021 incident in Duala  were attackers of officers of the Liberia National Police.

On November 23, 2021, hundreds of disadvantage youths commonly known as Zogos went on the rampage in the commercial hub of Duala, outside Monrovia in revenge of their colleagues death.

According to the information, the Zogos  were armed with cutlasses chasing peaceful citizens on grounds that the Police reportedly gun-down one of their men as the result of the citizens in the area.

The Tuesday protest action by these disadvantaged youth witness the exchange of stone throwing and several structures being set a-blaze by the rampaging Zogos. This resulted to three person losing their lives due to the alleged exchange of fire armed between officers of LNP and the disadvantaged youth.

Addressing the issue at the Ministry of Information Cultural Affairs and Tourism regular Thursday briefing in Monrovia, Assistant Minister for Information Services asserted that those who die during the incident are those who he claimed attacked the police.

Daniel Nuxe Thomas mentioned that this is not the first of its kind in the country for disadvantage youth to gang up against the police saying “do research on standup against police and zogos a lot of things will pop up.”

We had similar situation few years ago when the Weah Government had not come into power, he added.

According to Thomas, it is quite in accurate for people to say there are increase number of deaths and insecurity currently ongoing.

Though he acknowledged some high profile deaths, Thomas claimed such do not amount to increase in deaths and insecurity in the country as being reported.

“Some of the ritualistic killing had never been the case and these cannot be projected as increase rather what we are seeing is politicking,” he noted.

During the Tuesday incident, a single barrel  gun and shots were retrieved from the Zogos, Police Spokesman Moses Carter revealed in a press conference late November 23, 2021.
