Woman Gives Birth In Open Street

Report from Gbarpolu County says a woman in the area have givenbirth in the street.

According to the Communication Director at the Ministry of Health, Felecia Gbesay, the lady was said to have been escorted to a nearby health center in Bopolu City by dozens of women when she put in bed her child in the street.
“There is a report where we are told that a lady was in labor pain and was being escorted to a nearby hospital, but was forced to give birth in the street while on their way to the hospital. I am told that the women have to use their lappers around her in the open where she later gave birth,” Madam Gbesay told ELBC Super Morning Show Thursday, January 31, 2019 via mobile phone.
The information was disclosed to health authorities in the area who are currently on a county tour in Western Liberia as part of its fact-finding tour and visitation to various health facilities in Liberia.
It follows reports of shortage of drugs and other medical supplies resulting to the deaths of patients in some parts of the country.
Recently, there was a report from Gbarpolu alleging that three patients who were to undergo minor surgery died at the only referral hospital in the county, Chief Jallah Lone, as a result of lack of fuel in the generator, the situation was later confirmed by local health authorities in the area.
Meanwhile, Madam Gbesay has informed the public that an investigative visitation to each health facility in the country is expected to be carried out across the country shortly.
According to her, health authorities have observed over the years that supplies given to health centers fast run out suggesting that most of them might being mismanaged or taken away by some hospital staff to their private clinics or drug stores. TNR
