Weah Raises Over US$500k

As part of efforts to help needy Liberians, President George Manneh Weah has helped the Monrovia City Corporation (MCC) to raise over US$500,000 for charity.

The Monrovia City Corporation (MCC) has embarked on a program named: ‘Presidential Special Charity Program’ aim at raising the amount of US$3.6million for charity in the country.

As part of raising this amount, special images of President Weah are purchased by humanitarians, business people and special guests to help fund this program.

These are special images of the Liberian leader during his glorious days which are in ‘demand’ all around the world even in Liberia.

They are meant to be placed in offices, stores, supermarkets and other areas as part of symbol as supporters of the former soccer legend and now celebrated Liberian chief executive.

According to the Liberian leader, his images are celebrated images and cannot be given free. Some people paid US$50,000 and above on Wednesday just to take ownership of those photos.

He said his images as the only world footballer of the year on the continent of Africa are precious jewel around the world that everybody wants in their areas.

Prior to his coming on the pulpit, others paid millions of Liberian dollars, thousands of United States dollars toward the charity program on Wednesday at the Monrovia City hall.

“Let’s use our resources wisely to help people who are in need. I don’t want somebody to say papay I cannot pay my hospital bill. Some children are out of school just for small money. Let’s help those children and people who are in need. I know where I am coming from,” he said.

During the program, US$333,000.00 was realized in pledges and cash  along with LD8.4million respectively.

For his part, the City Mayor of the Monrovia City Corporation, Jefferson Koijee whose innovation is being embraced by the Liberian leader said it is the dream of the corporation to help those that are really in need in the country.

“We decided to use his image to cater to the poor. To address the need of the vulnerable. We decided that one of the best ways to talk to his people is to use his image,” he said.

According to the MCC’s boss, the images of the Liberian leader will be used to cater to some of the people who cannot afford to send their children to school, hospital among others.

“We will be constructing hospitals, schools, and many other needs. We are very excited and delighted for this program,” he added.
