-SDPL Security Officer Cries After Being Attacked By Criminals At Plantation
The victim of the recent attack from criminals at the Sime Darby Plantation in western Liberia wants the immediate intervention of the government of Liberia to deploy more state security officers at the Plantation.
Speaking to reporters from his sick bed at the Sime Darby Clinic, Tamba Anthony said there is a need to empower security of the company with tear gas in order to defend themselves whenever they are attacked by those criminals who are in the constant habit of attacking security officers at the Plantation.
Anthony is one of five Sime Darby Security officers recently attacked by over 30 criminals who have gone to steal the palm brunch of the company. Anthony, 32, explaining his ordeal from his hospital bed said he was attacked by the criminals who scraped his left hands twice, whipped him with series of deadly weapons, took his phone and also wounded his other colleagues and later chased them away from their posts, but said they were rescued by the company.
“I was on post when those guys came telling me leave and while asking them why I should leave, the other guy took the cutlass and wanted to hit me on my head, I blocked it, that’s why I receive the wounds. He hits two times and the other guys jumped on me and my other colleagues. That’s how we all scattered in different directions,” he said.
He has been working with the company since 2011. The victim is a citizen of Medina in Grand Cape Mount County and said he can recognize some of the criminals when he sees them because majority of them are members of the local communities around the Plantation.
He further said the criminal activities at the plantation is increasing every day alleging that community members are now in the constant habit of stealing the palm belonging to the company.
“We want the government of Liberia to help us with tear gas, baton so we can use them while on duty at the plantation. We are not authorized to carry gun as a company, but the tear gas and baton will help us. I can recognize some of the people who attacked us. But the police said we should get well first so we can help with the investigation because we will show those guys we can recognize,” he added.
