“WASSCE To Be A Simple Periodic Test”

Liberia’s Education Minister, Dean Ansu Sonii has predicted an excellent result for senior students of this school year, Academic 2018/2019.

Minister Sonii said he envisages a test that will be looked at by students as those of a regular periodic test. He made the revelation midweek when he officially launched the West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) Intervention Program in Monrovia.

The program as named and styled is meant to prepare in advance senior students in high schools across the country for better result endeavors as they relate to the writing of the public exams in the next six months ahead.

Making the official launch of the tutorial program for Private and Public High School Students, the Liberia Education Minister cautioned students across the country to be studious and ever willing to learn as the only surest way to produce better results in any given public test.

“I don’t care what we do, no matter how many monies your parents may pay, no matter how hard working our principals may be, the facilities, the best lesson plans, if you don’t want to learn, you will not learn,” Minister Sonii declared amidst cheers from students and participants at the program.

According to him, the project is being undertaken by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning and other partners to reduce mass failure in future tests.

The program which is expected to begin tomorrow, Saturday November 17, 2018 is expected to run for six months and is targeting all 12^th Graders from both the Private and Public Schools across the country.

It is designed to teach 12^th Graders WASSCE syllabuses comprising of the nine major subjects including Math, English, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Physics, and Literature in English amongst others.

Last year, WASSCE formally replaced the West African Examination Council (WAEC) with report of massive failure shown from the results released by the examination house of the country, WAEC.

Over time, there have always been poor results coming from the examination house of the country with many attributing it to the unwillingness of students to study their lessons coupled with the presence of unqualified and unprepared teachers in the classrooms as well as carelessness on the part of parents to follow up on their children’s progress amongst others.

In the case of WASSCE, many find it difficult for most students to make successful pass due to several factors including poor academic foundation for students, lack of proper facilities to enhance learning environments in schools and a forensic monitoring system to guide educational policies laid down and little or no coordination between and amongst school authorities to discourage academic malpractices and tricks perpetrated by students across the country.
