VOINJAMA-Voting in the Lofa County Senatorial By-Elections has ended and preliminary results are expected today, June 29, 2022.
The June 28, 2022 By-Election is intended to occupy the nothingness left behind by the legal disability of Brownie Samukai.
Samukai was pleaded guilty for the misappropriation of some millions intended for the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) during the regime of former Liberian President, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
Because Samukai could not take his seat as elected senator of the County and when the Court announced his guilty verdict, and declaration of vacancy was made by the Liberian Senate thus giving the National Elections Commission the go-ahead to conduct an election in that part of Liberia.
For the few week now, the county was the most talked about in the news as citizens of the country have been concerned who takes on the seat.
Early last week, members of both the ruling party, CDC and other opposition politicians trooped their ways in Lofa with the intention of securing the seat for their party or those they support out of the total of six persons who contested in the just-ended election.
Yesterday, over one hundred thousand eligible voters went to the polls to cast their ballot for the candidate of their choice.
Reports from the County have it that the process went on well yesterday
Participating politicians who were interviewed during polling day expressed confidence in the process, but United Party candidate Galakpai Kortima pointed an accusing finger at James Kollie, Liberia Aviation boss for allegedly scaring voters in the Salayeah area with armed men.
“But our men went in” he said.Kortima said the situation was brought under control anyway.
“I think the process is going well except” Kortima said.
Moses Kollie who did not listen to Kortima’s allegation said someone called him informing him that he was being discussed.
But responding the allegation, Kollie said the Salayeah district has been his stronghold since he entered politics.
He denied that he ever scared anyone as was claimed in the by Kortima in an LBS interview yesterday
