SUP Seeks Anti-Violence Strategy

-From Council Of Patriots For June 7

Ahead of Friday “Save The State” protest in Liberia, the major student-based political Party, Student Unification Party (SUP) at the University of Liberia, is calling on the Council Of Patriots to host a mass-stakeholder meetings with all persons involved to with immediate effect present what it terms as anti-violence strategy for the June 7 gathering.

The Student Unification Party believes that anti-violence strategy will help expose anyone that will be planted in the gathering to cause problem on that day.

Speaking recently, SUP Chairman, Carlos Tingban Edison said it is unambiguous that the ultimate demand on the faces of the masses remain the upward improvement in the appalling economic nightmare of the state, therefore, SUP will not honor an aggressively elusive political popularity adventure that lacks a clear revolutionary agenda.

“The democracy we enjoy did not come at the benevolence of one individual, it was fought for and earned by men and women who lost their lives yesterday and we will not allow any man to abuse it today,” Edison said.

Accordingly, SUP said it has been informed that the George Weah led-government has allegedly hired and brought into the country mercenaries combined with ex-rebel generals with a mandate to go after critical voices who are directly checkmating the excesses of his regime.

The group said it condemns this alleged devilish move by the Weah’s administration terming it as the reincarnation of the dark days under arms carrying dictators particularly Master-Sergeant Samuel K. Doe and world crime convict Former President Charles Taylor.

Edison bewailed “In this chronic state of historical amnesia, SUP wants to remind the Footballing President that the masses are the makers of history, with our revolutionary guidance; they will succumb to your fascist and dictatorial tendency.”

He indicated that an attack on any critical voice in the state will be an attack on the people who continuously live in absolute poverty saying “we demand that the government takes us from the spectator seat of the economy to a major player position as promised by the President. We demand immediate end of the mass looting of state resources.”

In a related development, the Justice-In-Chamber of the Supreme Court, Associate Justice Joseph Nagbe has issued a citation on the Ministry of Justice and the Council of Patriot for a conference this week.

Justice Nagbe’s citation is in regards to a petition for the issuance of an alternative writ of Mandamus filed before him by a human right group under the banner, Citizens United to Sustain Peace and Democracy through the Center for the Protection of Human Rights against MOJ and the organizers of the June 7 save the state protest.

Mandamus is a writ issued by a Supreme Court to compel a lower court or a government officer to perform a mandatory purely ministerial duty correctly.

The group in their petition wants the Court designate Venue where Government and the council of patriots will meet to present their petition preferably, Samuel Kanyan Doe Sport Complex in Paynesville, or Antoinette Tubman Stadium on United Nations Drive in central Monrovia.

The human right group further wants the court to compel government to provide security for the June 7 save the states protesters and that they (protesters) given a day for the presentation of their petition to national government on grounds that the protest has created fear amongst citizens, investors and other foreign nationals residing in the country.
