MONROVIA- A student of the Cyber-ED Christian School of Excellence shot a schoolmate early Tuesday prompting police to conduct investigation. According to police and school authorities.
Due to the shooting incident which is said to be first of its kind in Liberia according to police, the school administration issued this announcement.

“Dear CCS Parents. We are saddened beyond words to inform you that a student brought a gun to school today and a student was shot. While a majority of the students were eating breakfast in designated locations, this student slipped away to show it off to a friend and it accidentally went off. The gun was retrieved and the student is in custody now. Parents who can, may pick their students up by noon today. Please be in prayer for the Ireland family whose daughter was shot. An emergency parent meeting will be held tomorrow at 6pm.”
The statement further added: “Dear CCS Parents. I regret to inform you that there has been an emergency at the school. The children are safe. We will update you when we have more details. Please be in prayer.”
It added: : “with heavy hearts and much despair to inform you of a tragic incident that has occurred at our school. A student brought a handgun to school this morning.
While a majority of the students were eating breakfast in designated locations, this student slipped away to show off the gun to a friend and it accidentally went off. Staff, emergency medical personnel, Police, and all responded quickly.
Parents were informed of the emergency. Regrettably, the student did not survive the shooting. The gun was retrieved and the student is in the custody of Police. A full investigation is being undertaken by the Liberia National Police (LNP).
We will meet with our parents to answer any questions and concerns they have. For the privacy of the students and their families, we are not releasing names at this time.
We are currently in touch with grief counselors and therapists to assist us with comforting and help with guiding our student body through the grieving process. Please join us in prayer for the bereaved family whose daughter lost her life today. ”
Speaking to a team of reporters at the campus, the Deputy Police Inspector Col. Marvin Sackor, said, as soon as the incident occurred, ‘Police responded in time and are currently conducting investigation into the what led to fatal shooting.”
He added: “We have the situation under control and police is currently investigating the matter, but we will speak later on details of our investigation. We will not give details of the killer at the moment under privacy regulation.”
When this paper contacted the Ministry of Education for comment, an official there confirmed the shooting incident but declined to give further details saying: “the matter is with the police and we will wait for their report”
The name of the student who shot the other has not been disclosed.. Sources on campus said the diseased is the daughter of Dr. Philip Ireland, an Emergency Physician at the John F. Kennedy Hospital who survived from the deadly Ebola virus in 2014. His daughter was a student of 12th grade.
She was pronounce dead at the SOS hospital in Monrovia.
