-Cummings Chides Gov’t Officials; Brands Weah’s Regime of ineptitude, incompetent

By Jackson C. Clay, Jr.

The opposition political leader of the Alternative National Congress (ANC), Alexander B. Cummings has sounded a stern warning that the alleged stealing by the CDC led-government has to stop, adding that you cannot have a leaking bucket and still try to add more water.

Mr. Cummings asserted that this government and its officials are massively stealing and looting from the Liberian people in broad day light, something he said is appalling and unacceptable.

Also branding the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) government under the leadership of President George M. Weah as inept and incompetent, Cummings intones that degradation, greed and corruption in government is harming growth and development process as well as tarnishing the nation’s image.

According to him, the corrupt and roguish reflection is rendering the Pro-Poor government unpopular so soon and despite Weah’s declaration that Liberians will not be spectators in their own economy, it is glaring that conversely, Liberians are much more spectators in their economy than in the past.

Speaking Thursday, January 10, 2019 when he appeared on a local radio talk show, The Costa Show aired on Roots 102.7FM in Monrovia, Cumming said that the way President Weah is leading the country clearly demonstrates the level of incompetence, ineptitude and arrogance.

“The way this government is running this country demonstrates the level of incompetence and ineptitude. I mean, the President himself said that when the competence is not available the non-competence becomes available and his quote is right but what kind of leader says that publicly about his own government?” Cummings wonders.

“To loot the treasury of this country for personal gains is appalling, unacceptable and Liberians should be upset with this action by this government. This is your money and your resources that are being spent for personal gains. What is more an affront is this disrespect for the Liberian people that this looting is being done in our faces and the level of impunity is unprecedented in our country’s history,” Cummings stressed.

The ANC political leader admitted that though there have been corruptions in the country, but pointed out that the level of under the CDC led government in just is year is highly unacceptable, thus, encouraging every Liberian to stand up against this government.

He urged the Weah led administration to focus more on the Liberian people for which he was elected and stop amassing wealth at the expense of the people who elected him. Cummings pointed out that leaders should take care of the people first and should be the last to eat after the people have eaten.

The ANC’s Political leader reveals that the economy is in terrible shape, with fiscal deficit escalating profoundly while government’s revenue is dropping discouragingly and when asked what score to give the administration he openly and clearly stated that the grade is ZERO.

Quizzed as to what would be his take if the internationally-driven investigation into the alleged missing L$16 billion hooked some high profile officials, maintains that if they are found culpable, should bear the consequence through the due process of the law; adding that in the interim, “we demand full accountability for the US$25m mop up scheme because that is your (people’s) money. We must stop waste; provide conducive environment for investors to freely come and do business.”

Cummings also indicated that the action by President Weah to continuously fly private jet during his travels around the world clearly shows that he cares less about the people who elected him to power, adding that to spend a million dollars in a year only on travels is a sad joke.

“Liberians, the hardship you are experiencing is as a result of electing people who do not care about you but only focus on themselves,” Cummings noted.

In a related development, several Liberians Thursday January 10, 2019 joined the opposition, Alternative National Congress (ANC) of Alexander Benedict Cummings.

Those new partisans include Rev Momolu Johnson, Ben B. Togbah among several Liberians who claimed the ANC is really an alternative to Liberia’s problems.

Speaking on behalf of the new members, Rev Momolu Johnson said they are confident that they will become victorious in 2023 if they work collectively through strategic planning.

“We all know our strategies because we are aware of the history of leaders who are in power in this country. We have come to join and win the 2023 elections in this country. Liberians must enjoy the resources of the country,” he said.

Welcoming the new members, the chairman of the ANC, Lafayette E. O. Gould said it is now time Liberians roll their sleeves and get ready to work ahead of 2023.

“Our country is at a cross road. It is a cross road economically, security wise and Mr. Cummings is willing and ready to lead this country,” he added.

For his part, the political leader of the Alternative National Congress (ANC), Alexander Cummings encouraged the new members to work collectively, saying “joining the ANC is not a mistake.”

“You made a wise decision and join us change our country for everyone,” he said.
