Rep. Goshua Upholds Pledge

-As HoR Begins Discussions on Anti-Rape Petition from Grand Bassa

Grand Bassa Legislative Caucus Chairman and Electoral District five Representative, Thomas Alexander Goshua has presented to the plenary of the House of Representatives; a communication along with recent petition received from anti-rape activists in the county.

The documents were placed on the Tuesday, September 1, 2020 agenda of the Lower House and read accordingly; a gathering that recorded its 48thDay sitting of the House’sthird Session.

Hon. Goshua’ approach follows his commitment made on 26, August this year during a robust turnout of Citizens in Grand Bassa under the umbrella “Affiliation of Women and Children Rights Activists” headed by Amb. Linda Lloyd, Executive Director of the Girls Education Foundation- Liberia; a point at which they presented several recommendations to the Legislature and the Executive through the Legislative Caucus and the Local administration to Stop Rape in the nation.

The petitioners emphasized the need for Criminal Court”E” Decentralization, Building of Safe Homes for Survivors, Amendment of Rape Law, prescribing penalties for parents who find pleasure in compromising rape cases and equipping of Laboratories with DNA machines as well as establishment of District Anti-Rape Taskforce across Liberia amongst other essential concerns.

At the session, the petition was read for the in-depth comprehensive analysis of the honorable body amidst reported 960 cases of rape and sexual abuses in Liberia.
