Rep. Cole Defends VP Taylor

-Says Local Chiefs Induction Was A Surprise Duty

By Staff Writer

Bong County District #3 Representative, Josiah Marvin Cole says Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor did no wrong during the recent induction of local county officials in Bong County.

Rep. Cole appearing on a local radio in Monrovia Thursday May 31, 2018 said both threatening remarks made by VP Taylor and functioning as induction officer was not wrong neither was it illegal.

Serving as one of the guests on the Thursday May 31, 2018 Edition of the Truth Breakfast Show, the Bong County lawmaker maintained that remarks made during the ceremony against local county officials were also used during the last regime of past recent ruling Unity Party of Madam Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf.

He alleged that the organizers of the program did not know that Vice President Taylor was going to be at the occasion despite earlier saying Mrs. Taylor has gone purposely to the program to donate motorbikes to chiefs of the county.

According to him, the organizers of the program saw Madam Taylor as a surprise visitor to the program but chose to give her the task to perform the induction of the local authorities.

During the program, the Liberian VP is on record for telling local county officials to go and decide on joining the ruling CDC as it was reportedly done under the UP led government or risk being replaced since most of their supporters were still looking for space in government.

She added that now is ‘their time to eat’ and no body can’t stop them.

In reaction, a Senatorial aspirant of Bong County, Fehnon Gbelai disagreed with the Bong lawmaker saying, it was so saddened that a sitting lawmaker could not differentiate between political rally and induction ceremony of local county officials who fall directly under the jurisdiction of the Internal Affairs Ministry and the County Superintendent.

According to Gbelai, statement attributed to the UP for people to join the ruling regime was made at a political rally meant to canvass support for the party compared to the one made by VP Taylor at an induction ceremony of political appointees in a professed government of inclusion. He urged Rep. Cole to ‘call a spade a spade and a hat, a hat’.

The Senatorial aspirant pointed out that it is good for honorable men to say truth to their bosses in love to save the future other than raining praises on them even if they are caught in the wrong.

The statements made by the former Bong County Senator now Liberia’s Vice President have not fallen on fertile soil as it has generated more confusion and sent a non-reconciliatory message while at the same time contradicting Weah’s proposed government of inclusion.
