PUL Welcomes Govt’s Decision

-To Investigate Brutality Against Journalists

The Press Union of Liberia welcomes the constitution of a committee by President George Weah to investigate brutality against some members of the media by state securities.

The Press Union of Liberia interpose no objection to the credibility of those named on the presidential committee including its former president Peter Quaquqa.

Mr. Quaqua is the current president of the West Africa Journalists Association who brings worth of experience in media advocacy

Members of the Press Union of Liberia recently staged a peaceful assembly decrying the unprecedented wave of brutality, detention and intimidation of journalists in Liberia.

The Union believes that the committee investigation will uncovered the disproportionate actions of these security officers and find  a remedy to the problem.

The Union has a zero tolerance against all forms of brutality, detention and intimidation of Journalists in Liberia.

Meanwhile, the PUL President in consultation with the leadership has named a six member committee to work with the presidential committee in investigating the matter.

Those named on the committee are Journalists Frank Sainwola, Cecelia Clarke, Cllr. Bobby Livingston, Alphonso Toweh, RhodoxonFayiah and Facia Harris. 

The committee is mandated to work with the presidential committee and report within ten days.
