MONROVIA-Montserrado County District #10 Representative Yekeh Kolubah has issued a clarion call to the Liberia National Police to strengthen highway patrol regulation.
Representative Kokubah said if efforts are intensified at the highway patrol unit, it will reduce high risk accidents and prevent vehicles of damaging.
The tough talking lawmaker expressing grave concerns noted that in recent days, the growing number of avoidable deaths on Liberian highways are tarnishing the image of the police force, especially the patrol unit.
At the same time, Representative Kolubah is calling for the Highway Patrol police to be robust and enforce traffic regulations, monitor speeding, and ensure vehicles are roadworthy, adding they are matters of public safety and national importance.
“Too many lives are being lost due to preventable road accidents. The Highway Patrol police must do more to enforce traffic regulations, monitor speeding, and ensure vehicles are roadworthy. This is a matter of public safety and national importance. I’m calling on the Liberian National Police to strengthen highway patrol regulations and intensify efforts in regulating the Highway Patrol unit.”
Representative Kolubah urged the LNP to deploy more officers on major highways, enhance driver education campaigns, and hold reckless drivers as well as the Ministry of Transport and other stakeholders to collaborate in addressing the crisis.
“Every life lost is a tragedy for a family, a community, and the nation. We must act now to protect our people. I hope this call resonates with many Liberians and lead to swift action and safer roads across the country.” Kolubah asserted.
His statement follows recent accidents on various highways that have taken away lives and endangered hundreds of citizens.
