Please Release The L$16Billion Investigation Report Soon

WHEN THE NEWS broke out on that fateful day about a team of financial experts from the US taking charge of a forensic investigation into a reported ‘Missing Billions’ Liberian Dollars saga under the young government of President George M. Weah, many Liberians who did not trust an investigative team of the government of Liberia uncontrollably jubilated in expectation that the case of the money would not be categorized as ‘Business as usual’.

THE JUBILATION FURTHER increased when the US Government through its Embassy in Monrovia clarified that the US team of forensic investigators was not willing to work with any selected investigators from the Government of Liberia, but their international colleagues for an independent and robust investigation.

RECENTLY, THE US investigative team announced the completion of the collection of information from concerned major stakeholders from the Government of Liberia, adding that the report will be released shortly to the public.

IT IS NOW about two weeks since the conclusion of the collection of raw information from persons of concern and some Liberians are said to be running out of patience for the perceived delay in releasing the findings of the forensic investigation.

SOME LIBERIANS BELIEVE that if the release of the report is further delayed, they fear that top decision makers of the country could use their positions to temper with the much needed report Liberians are thirsty of even though they trust the independence of the team, but delays are some of the times dangerous.

THERE ARE THOSE who are of the belief that they want the investigative team to take her time in reviewing and counter checking documents released to it during the cross examination of information from the persons of concern, but cautiousness is needed.

THE RELEASE OF the information to the Liberian public is seen as a major step forward for the development of the country or retrogresses considering the economic conditions of Liberia and Liberians.

IT IS BASED upon the necessity of this report that we at the New Republic Newspaper are calling on the US Government through its Embassy in Monrovia to make good her promise by releasing the report to the public so as to erase all the perceptions regarding the reported missing billions Liberian Dollars.

THE TIMELY RELEASE of the report will help reduce speculations, present the facts and put to bed allegations from public officials who are bent on pointing accusing fingers at each other including present and past government officials on a blame shifting gam
