MONROVIA-National Elections Commission (NEC), has released preliminary results of registered voters from phase one of the Biometric Voter Registration with a cumulative total of one million, four hundred thirty-five thousand, two hundred nine (1,435,209) registered voters from across six counties.
The Commission on March 20, 2023, inaugurated the first-ever biometric system in Liberia’s Electoral Process in six counties including; Bomi, Margibi, Grand Bassa, Gbarpolu, Grand Cape Mount, and Montserrado.
The process was completed on April 9, 2023, whilst admitting that there were challenges, especially with the introduction of new technology.
NEC’s Chairperson, Davidettta Brown Lasannah told newsmen that these counties constitute a total of one thousand sixty-five (1065) registration centers, which were duly received, verified, and tallied.
Madam Lasannah added that the centers account for 51.20% of the total number of registration centers across the fifteen (15) political subdivisions.
The statistics show that seven hundred eleven thousand, four hundred ten (711,410) registrants are females whilst the male population amount to seven hundred twenty-three thousand, seven hundred ninety-nine (723,799).
Madam Lasannah assured the public that duplication is in full swing and the commission will do everything to calm down on perpetrators.
