MONROVIA-The National Elections Commission (NEC) has mandated aspirants in the impending Presidential and Legislative Elections to remove campaign materials erected before Monday, May 15, 2023.

NEC noted that any failure to adhere to such an order, the Commission will be left with no option but to punish violators.

In a press conference held on Monday, May 8, 2023, NEC’s Chairperson, Davidetta Browne Lansanah mentioned that these acts signal pre-campaigning in the country and are unhealthy for the country’s democratic consolidation.

She pointed that unspecified actions await violators who will intentionally ignore the electoral laws.

At the same time, Madam Browne-Lansanah reiterated that on May 5, 2023, the Commission had begun documenting the violations of campaign regulations and warned that all aspirants who are engaged in pre-campaigning should desist to avoid future embarrassment.

During the recent Inter-Party Consultative Committee (IPCC) Information Sharing Meeting, NEC reaffirmed its unwavering resolve to enforce the 2023’s Revised and Published Guidelines on Campaigning and informed all registered political parties, coalitions, alliances, that NEC has begun the process.

The Commission also pointed out that the campaign period of the 2023’s Presidential and Legislative Elections commences August 5 to October 8, 2023.
