NEC Ends Vetting Of Referendum Symbols

The National Elections Commission (NEC) with the involvement of stakeholders has completed the vetting of symbols for the Constitutional Referendum on December 8, 2020 through regional consultations around the country.

On Monday, October 9, 2020, the commission began the first in a series of symbols unveiling ceremony in Ganta, Nimba County with involvement of stakeholders from the southeastern and central region of Liberia.

The National Elections Commission is now in the process of unveiling the symbols for the 2020 constitutional referendum.

Additionally, the elections House on Monday, October 12, held a second in a series of referendum symbols unveiling activities in Buchannan City, Grand Bassa County.

Consistent with its mandate to ensuring the participation of all eligible Liberians in the upcoming elections, NEC through its Chairperson Davidetta Browne Lansanah disclosed that the commission has drawn up appropriate strategies to provide civic and voter education as well as gender mobilization for the special senatorial election, the referendum and the by-elections.

Lansanah further stated that the NEC will rehire one hundred and forty-six civic and voter education and one hundred, forty-six genders mobilize for the senatorial election.

These two hundred-ninety-two civic and voter educators and gender mobilizers Madam Lansanah said will be deployed to carry out the community outreach on the day of the launch of the civic and voter and gender mobilization campaign on October 30, 2020.

“Civic and voter education materials will be produced for distribution nationwide to facilitate the effective and robust CVEs campaign posters, flyers, stickers, jingles and drama has been produced and will be distributed for airing,” she added.

The NEC boss continues “Three hundred civil society activists and faith based organizations have been accredited and certificated to assist with the CVEs gender awareness exercise.”
