The newly confirmed Director-General of the National Bureau of Concessions (NBC), Gregory Coleman is leading an eight-man Monitoring Team to the ArcelorMittal’s mining area in Yekepa, Nimba County.

According to an official of the bureau, the visit is aimed at assessing the current status of the company’s operations to assume measurable impact as outlined in its Mineral Development Agreement (MDA) with the Government of Liberia.

Nicholas Faryombo, Jr. Communication Coordinator at the NBC told reporters before the team departure for Nimba County that the trip will also afford Director-General Coleman the opportunity to introduce himself to the management and staff of the company thus opening a new page for future cooperation and collaboration with the DG’s office.

He further asserted that DG Coleman and team will also visit the port city of Buchanan in Grand Bassa County which is used by ArcelorMittal to ship the ore extracted from Yekepa out of the country.

He averred that discussion will be held with the management of the company to understand some of the issues and challenges confronting its operations.

Faryombo also indicated that the meeting with the company’s management will afford the NBC to explain the newly approved Concessions Reporting Template (CRT) intended to make reporting easier and faster by concessionaires.

While in Nimba County, DG Coleman and his NBC staff will also visit mounts Tokadeh and Gangra, two of the highest peaks of Mount Nimba which ArcelorMittal is currently operating on so as to observe safety and environmental measures under which employees are working at those sites.

The team will during the tour meet with local dwellers of communities affected by the operations of the company for possible remedy and redress.
