In the wake of the spread of the Coronavirus in the country, the United Nations Population Funds (UNFPA) has enhanced the efforts of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Youth Task Force against Covid-19 as they collectively fight the deadly pandemic in the country.
The international body noted that as part of its obligation in fighting the pandemic in Liberia, it has agreed to divert funds which were available for the advocacy and dissemination of the National Youth Policy to buttress the works of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Youth Task Force in creating massive awareness on the preventions against COVID-19.
The project included; the execution of communication activities and community engagements in straight adherence to the National Health Measures including strategies to mitigate the spread of the virus in the local communities.
The support from UNFPA has helped reinforce the group’s capability to increase the level of awareness being carried out in the various communities which include regular washing of hands, social distancing, wearing of nose mask and face shield among others.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Youth Task Force are commending UNFPA through its Country Representative, Dr. BannetNdyanabang for the timely intervention to help address the challenges of young people and youth development in Liberia.
The National Youth Task Force is a conglomeration of various youth Organizations which include the Federation of Liberian Youth (FLY), Liberia National Student Union (LINSU), Mano River Union Youth Parliament (MRUYP), Young Men Christian Association (YMCA) and other youth groups. It was established on March 26, 2020 and seeks to create massive public awareness on how people can prevent themselves from the COVID -19 pandemic. Other functions of the task force include the distribution of food and nonfood items.
