‘My wife was murdered’ …..husband of Gifty says

MONROVIA, October 6-The husband of madam Gifty Lama, whose body along with her work mate, of the Liberia Revenue Authority-LRA, Mr.  Sylvester Lama were found dead last week told a local radio station that his wife was murdered.

Mrs. Lama and Mr. Albert Peters, two employees of the Liberia Revenue Authority-LRA bodies were found dead in Mr. Peters’s vehicle in central Monrovia on Broad Street on Friday morning, October  2, 2020 in underclothes with his leg  said to be broken  while her neck was said to have been broken.

Peters and Lama were top managers at the LRA, an agency responsible for the collection of all government taxes as well as monitoring of various  tax funds transfers from the Central bank of Liberia into special government account.

“I am not insinuating. Let me tell you something here. I am telling you that my wife was murdered,” he said.

According to him,  he was denied seeing his wife’s body before she was taken to hospital. “The police denied the family from seeing the body. Most of the the information  provided to the  police director were not accurate. So, that is why he came out with misinformation as it relates to the unfolding.”

When this paper contacted the Commissioner General of the LRA, Thomas Nah Doe for comments, he declined with a text message saying: “I am not available for interview.”

Mr. Lama added: “My brother, the police denied family members of seeing the body and said they were pronounced dead upon arrival. That is the police own information and not the family information.”

Fear for his life too

He said, he fears for his life currently.  “I will tell the world that even I myself that standing here, I am not safe because the manner in which my wife died.”

“Just imagine that my residence in Browerville, I am no more in Browerville? I left my own residence because it is isolated. If my wife can be harmed that way, it is also possible that I myself can be targeted,” he said.

He dispelled that his wife had an extra marital affairs with the late Peters.  They have two kids, a  five year old girl and a two years old boy.

“Mr. Albert Peters was like a father to us. My wife was a person with high standing,” he said. 

So far, the police have not arrested anyone
