Monrovia Turns Into ‘Garbage Kingdom’

Indeed, sovereignty challenged as tons of garbage rebrands the capital city Africa’s oldest Independent Republic-Monrovia that historically enjoyed the beauty and posture of a clean once set into motion by previous innovatively caring lord mayors whose demonstrated imbued city elegance, without second thought captured the admiration of mayors when it played host to the World Mayors Conference some time ago which history proudly attests to.

In the same vein, someone noted that when people boast and brag by standing behind the great wall of sovereignty as solid shield of defense, such people must carefully understand and capable of digesting the factors that reflect sovereignty without being debased by uncontrollable complications that will somewhere down the road gravely affect the very digestive system.

According to the individual, the essence of sovereignty is land and what does the land depict, freedom and on what path freedom treks, independence and through independence, the citizens and the world are assured that such people are ready and capable of their cardinal and national responsibilities without unwillingly caving into pressure and dictations from extended force for unnecessary reasons.

Despite operating on the spread sheet of understanding and interdependence as no one nation has it all to sustain perpetually every inch of its existence, a sovereignty nation and people must strive as far as possible to be captain of their own destiny and champion of their achievements.

However, considering unfolding political developments in the national arena, particularly what the City of Monrovia is being confronted with by virtue of making, keeping and maintaining it as a clean city, it is saddened and a great gash in the neck of the city when time after time, the government through the authority of the Monrovia City Corporation (MCC) will have to be seen hat in hands begging donor countries to provide resources and equipment to clean the City (Monrovia). Then where lies the significance of sovereignty?

When we failed to subscribe seriously and meaningfully to the adage that when someone is watching your back; equally so engage yourself by watching your stomach (front), we will always look up to others to clean our capital city which preposterous.

Obviously, it is an open secret that this country has so many mineral including natural resources than some of the nations we are with hat in our hands begging for money and materials assistance to clean our city; when through budgetary allotment, trucks, front-end loaders and other most needed items could be procured to arrest the pathetic rebrand status the City of Monrovia has earned as being the garbage kingdom in just one year of the rein of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) under President, Dr. and Man of God, George M. Weah  under the watch of vision-embattled Mayor Jefferson Tamba Koijee whose leadership continues to cause unproductive storm  and antagonistic wave.

One can see all over the place that due to the acute shortage of donated trucks, front-end loaders and other urgently needed tools to tackle head-on the heap of scattered and swelling garbage in and around the city, so true, the garbage is belching out offensive odor at the displeasure of citizens and foreign friends.

It is obvious that the government with its MCC’s component in the first year of national stewardship has lost the uphill garbage fray thereby presenting; and turning Monrovia into a garbage kingdom with shame, disgust and disturbing disappointment.
