-To IMF/World Bank Spring Meetings
The Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Hon. Samuel D. Tweah Jr, at the head of a high-power Liberian Government delegation, is expected to attend the 2018 Spring Meetings of the World Bank (WB) and International Monetary Fund (IMF).
The Spring Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WBG) bring together central bankers, ministers of finance and development, parliamentarians, private sector executives, representatives from civil society organizations and academics to discuss issues of global concern, including the world economic outlook, poverty eradication, economic development, and aid effectiveness.
Also featured are seminars, regional briefings, press conferences, and many other events focused on the global economy, international development, and the world’s financial system. This year’s events will take place in Washington, DC, April 16-22, 2018.
According to a release, while in Washington DC, the delegation is expected to hold bilateral and multilateral discussions on Liberia’s pro-poor development agenda and make follow-up on commitments made by development partners to support the government’s development plan.
Ahead of the summit, Minister Tweah and team will also hold discussions with the World Bank Vice President for Africa Makhtar Diop looking at challenges confronting the Liberian economy and considering more avenues for the Bank’s support.
Moreover, while in the US, the Minister will hold talks with senior officials of the International Monetary Fund, World Bank Group, The United States Peace Corps, the United States Departments of State and Treasury, African Development Bank, International Finance Corporation, among others.
Officials traveling along with Minister Tweah include Deputy Minister for Economic Management Hon. Augustus J. Flomo, Agriculture Minister, Hon. Mogana S, Flomo Jr., Minister of Information Culture and Tourism, Hon. Lenn Eugene Nagbe, Minister of State without Portfolio, Hon. Trokon Kpui, Minister of Land, Mines and Energy Hon. Gesler Murray, and John B. S Davies III, President and CEO, Liberia Bank for Development and Investment (LBDI).
