Mining: Mines & Energy Ministry Bans Mining Activities In Ben-Ben Town

MONROVIA-The Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) has issued an immediate ban on all mining activities in and around Ben-Ben Town, located in Todee Statutory District, rural Montserrado County.

The ban also extends to prospecting, reconnaissance, and exploration activities, including those conducted by licensed operators. While acknowledging the rights of legitimate license holders, the ministry emphasized that public safety, peace, and order take precedence over all other considerations.

This decision comes in the wake of a recent tragic incident in the area that led to the loss of lives. The ministry has stated that the suspension of activities will allow the Liberia National Police and other security agencies to restore calm and ensure safety in the region.

The Regional Coordinator, Mining Agent, and Inspectors assigned to the area have been instructed to fully enforce this directive. The ministry further urges all individuals and entities to cooperate with the temporary measure to avoid penalties for non-compliance.

The Ministry of Mines and Energy reaffirms its commitment to safeguarding lives and upholding the rule of law in the mining sector. It calls on all stakeholders, including local communities, to work together in maintaining peace and ensuring that mining operations are conducted responsibly and within legal boundaries.
