MONROVIA–ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML) celebrated the 2024 holiday season with a series of vibrant and impactful events that brought smiles and festive cheer to communities across its concession areas and beyond.
The weeklong activities, spanning Montserrado, Bong, Nimba, and Grand Bassa Counties, combined joyous celebrations with acts of generosity, underscoring the company’s commitment to community engagement and social responsibility.
The festivities commenced in Buchanan on Monday with a grand children’s party and the ceremonial lighting of the Christmas Tree.
Children, staff, and community members gathered to enjoy the colorful event, which marked the beginning of AML’s Christmas activities.
Beyond the celebrations, AML showcased its giving spirit through charitable donations to several orphanages, old folks’ homes, public institutions, and communities across the concession areas, touching countless lives during the festive season.
On Tuesday, AML’s CEO, Michiel Van Der Merwe, and Chief Operating Officer, Anthony Kocken, took center stage in spreading holiday cheer in Yekepa. Alongside other staff members, they distributed Christmas gifts to children in Camp 4 and surrounding areas, creating lasting memories for the young beneficiaries.
The evening was further illuminated by the lighting of the Yekepa concession Christmas Tree, symbolizing hope and unity during the season.
Yekepa celebrations peaked on Saturday, December 28, with a grand Christmas party at the Yekepa playground.
The event drew hundreds of children who participated in various fun games, enjoyed delicious treats, and received gifts.
The atmosphere was one of pure joy and togetherness, as families and communities came together to celebrate the season.
In Monrovia, AML staff joined the festivities with a year-end gathering on Friday. The event highlighted the company’s appreciation for its hardworking employees, with a special recognition of Christopher Williams as ‘Employee of the Year.’
Williams was honored for his outstanding dedication and contributions throughout 2024, serving as an inspiration to his colleagues.
The celebrations reflect AML’s unwavering commitment to its corporate social responsibility and its communities.
Through donations to vulnerable groups and institutions, the company demonstrated its role as a compassionate and responsible partner to the people of Liberia.
The holiday season isn’t over yet for AML. The company has announced plans for additional activities in Buchanan and Yekepa this week, promising an exciting conclusion to the year.
ArcelorMittal Liberia committed it will continue to make positive impact, noting that the company extends its warmest season’s greetings and a happy new year to all Liberians and reaffirms its dedication to fostering joy, unity, and development in the communities it serves.
