The Monrovia City Government has honored more than twenty five (25) Diplomatic Missions and Corporate Institutions in the city for their unceasing role in helping to secure, maintain and sustain peace and economic development.
Some of the entities includes Lonestar Cell MTN, Orange Liberia, the US Embassy and several others embassies and foreign Mission accredited near Monrovia were awarded for their support to the government and people of Liberia in achieving the government’s Pro Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development through donor funding, budget supports and varied kinds of robust private-public sector investments.
Speaking late Monday at the Diplomatic and Investment Award Gala held in the Monrovia City Hall, Mayor Jefferson T. Koijee said the recognition was to foster a stronger relationship between the Foreign Missions in Liberia.
“This is to also recognize your respective nations and by extension their contributions to Liberia’s growth” said Koijee.
Mayor Koijee believes that cementing a strong relationship is “certainly a hope to the facilitation of sisterly city relationship” with municipalities which these diplomats represent.
He noted that MCC acknowledges the tireless contribution of the honorees and other friendly nations accredited near Monrovia who are working to strengthen the fragile peace and steady economic development as well as the immense support to the nation’s Pro-poor Agenda for Development and Prosperity .
He said:” The City Government is cognizant that peace is a necessary precondition for sustained economic growth and prosperity for Liberia. We are committed to utilizing the platform provided by the City Government to preach peace , mutual respect and enhanced dialogue within our jurisdiction and across the fifteen political sub-division of Liberia, by extension”.
He pointed out that the City Government of Monrovia anticipates that Foreign Missions in Liberia will use their influences with municipalities within their respective countries, investors and companies to connect Monrovia in order to help foster trade, imports, exports, manufacturing, assembling and production among other smart economic exchanges.
The Youthful Mayor further said Monrovia has enormous business and investment potentials and it stands ready to collaborate with investors to explore these possibilities that are yet untapped
He said this year’s Gala event which is first of its kind is a constructive step to building the confidence of foreign and local investors ; Foreign Investors have played and are still playing key roles in the economic development of Liberia.
According to him, it is a fact that presently multinational companies of USA, China, UK, Germany , France , Lebanon amongst others are doing great business in Liberia and providing strong support to the social development sector with a view to improve human and social development indicators .
Mayor Jefferson T. Koijee further noted that the positive role of foreign diplomats in Liberia have made all possible efforts to convince the multinational companies of their respective countries to invest in Liberia.
The Lord Mayor concluded that he is confident that the Monrovia City Government and Foreign Missions continue their investment friendly policies, both at national and local levels to achieve the desired economic growth in coming years .
Some of the Foreign Missions honor include Embassies of the , Great Britain , Sweden , South Africa, Guinea , Nigeria , Sierra Leone , China amongst others .
Guaranty Trust Bank, Rice Importers, Brussels were amongst Corporate institution awarded .
The African Union, ECOWAS and United Nations were also awarded for their many contributions to Liberia’s Peace, Economic growth and development .
The honorees lauded the Monrovia City Government for being farsighted to recognize their efforts in getting Liberia on the right path and call for a collaborative effort in sustaining the peace.
They pledged to uninterruptedly support the government’s Pro poor Agenda for Development and Prosperity by attracting potential investors and helping to maintain and sustain the Country’s peace.
