Man, 40, ‘Beats Wife To Death’ In Lofa

A 35-year-old woman, Lorpu Kpadeh, a resident of Gbizzigbagu Town, in Zorzor, Lofa County has been discovered dead after she was allegedly beaten by a 40-year-old man, Krubozomob Gbegbe, who is believed to be the husband of the deceased.

Reports from Zorzor say the incident occurred Monday, August 13, 2018, while Lorpu and Krubozomob were on their farm.
The 40-year-old man allegedly used a stick with which he struck his 4-month-old breastfeeding wife, resulting to her death, according to police preliminary investigation report.

Family sources told Punch Liberia in Lofa that the deceased left her baby with Krubozomob’s elder brother in the town, while she left for the farm during the early hours of the fateful day she met her untimely death.

She had gone to her farm early so as to have done some of her personal farming chores to reduce the workload there before joining her peers for their usual scheduled group work on another farm, family sources narrated.

Police investigation reveals that Krubozomob and his late wife sometimes back, had a heated quarrel over the construction of what Lorpu described as a makeshift structure erected by the man on the farm for sleeping purpose, with the lady protesting that such structure was not conducive for humans to sleep in, an assertion that was vehemently rejected by her husband.

Later, according to the police investigation, Lorpu ordered her older son to demolish the structure, something which might have angered the 40-year-oldman to attack the deceased.

Following a thorough search for Lorpu to breastfeed her crying baby, community dwellers discovered the lifeless body of the deceased on the outskirt of their farm, with several bruises and cloth tied around her neck, according to police in Lofa.

Eyewitnesses said while attempting to escape, the suspect was arrested by some members of the community watch team and was later turned over to the police in Zorzor where he is currently undergoing investigation, while the remains of the deceased have been turned over by the police to the family for burial.

For the past 12 years, Zorzor District in Lofa County has been hard-hit by news of seven mysterious deaths, with four of the victims being females.

It all started with 17-year-old Vewu Kesselee who was allegedly murdered in 2007, while in 2010, Korpo Kamara left her Zorzor Lutheran Mission school campus to Konia Town on a weekend break, but never returned, as she was later found dead in Konia Town, with the perpetrators of the heinous crime not being found.

Korpo’s death led the student community in Zorzor to go on the rampage with a serious protest which eventually spread over to the county’s provision capital Voinjama, leading to massive destruction of properties.

Then just a year on, in 2011, one Krubo Tarnue was killed and parts extracted from her body, but her suspected killer having been tried and convicted, reportedly escaped jail.

Also, in June of this year, a 9th Grader of the Sumokota Public School around Zalemia Town, Krubo Gibson was said to have been beheaded by one Smithwou Ballah who is currently behind bars awaiting trial.
