An eighteen-year-old man only identified as Patea has been charged with murder in River Gee County for reportedly causing the death of a six-year-old boy (name withheld) as a result of drowning.

Patea is reported to have backed the six years old boy whom he tied on his back with a piece of cloth and attempted to cross a river with the boy tied on his back, but later untied the cloth which was tying the both of them together leaving the child to drown after he struggled for survival several times, but all in vain.

It is reported by a local journalist in the area on ELBC that the suspect reportedly accompanied by a seven year old boy was asked by the boy who witnessed the incident as to why he was leaving the boy to drown, something that angered the suspect to threaten the seven years old boy that he could suffer same if he dare reports the matter to anyone.

The victim is said to have been abandoned by the suspect who later told the seven years old that they could depart for town and seriously warned him not to report the incident to anyone or face his wrath next time they are left alone.

The local journalist in the area informed ELBC that while they both (the suspect and the child) reached the town in which they live, the child’s hearts  kept troubling him to the extent that he angrily confronted the alleged suspect, Patea, saying, “Why you can’t tell our mother what happened at the waterside to the little boy?”

It was at that point that Patea slapped the eyewitness saying, “Have you forgotten what I told you?”

The child is said to have screamed and cried loudly that his mother inquired as to why he was crying?  He explained that he was crying as a result of slaps he received from Patea (the suspect) because he (the child) confronted him about the six years old that he caused his death as a result of drowning in the nearby river.

Upon the release of the information to residents of the area, the suspect was arrested while a manhunt was launched in search of the six years old who was later discovered dead at the down side of the river after a whole day of search.

Patea is quoted as telling preliminary investigators that he took away the child’s life because he was a frisky (rude) child who was always refusing to share his food with him.

Meanwhile, investigation into the case is continuing in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County.
