Monrovia-December 5, 2025: The Liberia Special Economic Zones Authority (LSEZA), with support from the World Bank–funded Liberia Investment, Finance, and Trade (LIFT) Project, has successfully concluded a high-level study tour to Mauritius aimed at strengthening Liberia’s emerging Special Economic Zone (SEZ) landscape and improving national competitiveness on the global stage.
The Liberian delegation, led by LSEZA’s Acting Director of Administration, Hattie Wureh Hunder, embarked on the mission to understand Mauritius’ globally acclaimed SEZ, Logistics, and Freeport systems. The visit involved engagements with government ministries, private-sector institutions, and major industrial operators to gather practical insights that could help shape Liberia’s SEZ governance and investment frameworks.
According to LSEZA, the tour provided firsthand exposure to Mauritius’ advanced logistics coordination, Freeport infrastructure, and the service delivery mechanisms that support the country’s 19 Economic Zones. These systems, officials say, offer a model that can accelerate Liberia’s efforts to build efficient trade corridors and attract sustainable investments.
While in Mauritius, the delegation held productive discussions with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, the Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI), BPML Freeport Services, and House of Lords Beverages Ltd. The team examined how strong private-sector participation, streamlined investment promotion strategies, and efficient zone management contribute to Mauritius’ long-standing economic success.
The visit was coordinated by the Economic Development Board (EDB) of Mauritius, which facilitated meetings and site tours across key economic and industrial hubs.

LSEZA noted that critical takeaways from the mission included modern governance structures, infrastructure management systems, export-readiness models, and approaches for deeper private-sector integration—elements the Authority considers vital as Liberia works to establish a globally competitive SEZ framework.
The Liberian delegation comprised includes Madam Hattie Wureh Hunder, Acting Director for Administration, Miss Josephine G. Ghon-tay, Corporate, Communications Officer, Miss Anna M. Sarkor, One-Stop Shop Coordination Officer and Mr. Julius Saye Keh-nel, Acting Project Coordinator, LIFT-P
The study tour was funded under the World Bank’s LIFT Project, which seeks to improve Liberia’s investment climate, expand access to finance, and enhance trade efficiency as part of broader national economic reforms.
LSEZA says the knowledge gained will directly support ongoing efforts to modernize Liberia’s Special Economic Zones, attract new investments, and position the country as a competitive destination for global trade and manufacturing.
