-Ahead of Senatorial By-Elections
In the wake of the ongoing Senatorial by-elections campaign in Montserrado and Bong Counties and the electoral process in Liberia in July 2018, the Executive Director of the Liberia Refugees Repatriation and Resettlement Commission (LRRRC), Rev. Festus R.B Logan in support of the electoral process and in keeping with the National Elections Commission (NEC) guidelines and policy, has informed all refugees, asylum seeker, and other persons of concern who are currently enjoying international protection in Liberia to stay away from the ongoing campaign exercise and eventual voting process of the senatorial elections in the two counties, as doing so, will undermine their status as a refugees.
As the Liberian Government’s Refugee Agency responsible for providing international protection for refugees and other persons of concern in Liberia, the Commission is mandated to ensure that there is absolutely no participation and interference in the voting process by refugees within the borders of Liberia.
“You are reminded that the ongoing campaign and eventual voting process is only open to Liberian citizens and not foreigners according to the constitution of Liberia as well as guidelines of the National Elections Commission (NEC). All refugees, asylum seekers and other persons of concern are also warned that failure on your part to adhere to the warning, consequences thereof will be meted against you,” LRRRC’s release quotes its Executive Director.
