MONROVIA- Liberia head of states through the chief of office staff to the president, Nathaniel F McGill has launched a fifty million Liberia dollars scholarship scheme in Nimba County.
The initiative launch over the weekend in the county, aims at alleviating financial burden on parents benefiting over 20 thousand public school students in the county.
Remarking during the launch, McGill said the future of the country rests on the shoulders of the youthful population therefore, they sees it fit to provide young people with the necessary opportunity to advance themselves.
“I am very pleased to be in Nimba County today on behalf of the President of Liberia. A few days ago, Senator Prince Yormie Johnson and Jeremiah Kong approached the President about the need to have a scholarship in Nimba as being done in other counties. So, today we are here to launch what we call “education for all” program” Min. McGill said.
He furthered: “We have come to launch a scholarship scheme for all public school students and we are asking all public school students to take their copybooks and go to school without paying any fees.”
The chief of office staff to the president encouraged parents and students to take advantage of the opportunity as part of the initiative is to encourage parents to send their kids to school.
“The future of Liberia greatly depends on the young people and we need to build a strong foundation for our little brothers and sisters because they are the future leaders of our country,” he said.
To ensure the successful achievement of the initiative, McGill urged parents to report to the office of the County Education Officer (CEO) any public school administrator that will collect fees from students.
According to him, the 50 million Liberia dollars is the initial amount as they will continue engaging and working with the offices of the educational stakeholders in the county to provide more opportunities for school going kids across Liberia.
