MONROVIA-The Chairperson of the Opposition Liberty Party (LP) a constituent of the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP), Musa Bility has disclosed that the at the LP will shortly endorse the political leader of the Alternative National Congress (ANC), Alexander Cummings.
The expected endorsement is to present Cummings as their candidate for the CPP ticket for the upcoming 2023 general and presidential elections in Liberia.
Mr. Bility said the Executive Committee and the advisory committee of Liberty Party have scrutinized and asked Mr. Cummings all of the relevant questions for several hours of which he said the party was convinced that he (Cummings) can become a better alternative to face the Coalition for Democratic Change political leader and President George Weah in the upcoming general and presidential elections.
Speaking on the Spoon Talk on Monday, Mr. Bility said President Weah is the most popular politician and there is a need for the CPP to formulate a candidate who has all of the qualities it takes to unseat him.
On this ground, Bility said, the Party’s Executive Committee has resolved to endorse ANC’s Cummings to face president Weah.
According to him, the party is preparing to go for a congress very shortly to finalize their decision.
Mr. Bility furthered that those executives of the Liberty Party that are suspended, including senator Nyonblee Karngar Lawrence, will only be reinstated following the payment of their respective dues in line with the Party’s Constitution.
Bility said the political tension within the Liberty Party is as the result of Senators Abraham Darius Dillon and Nyonblee Karngar Lawrence of Montserrado Grand Bassa Counties quest to become vice running mate to any of the candidates who will be endorsed by the CPP as a precondition for the Liberty Party to endorse a decision that of which they as leaders, rejected strongly.
He said because of that, Senators Abraham Darius and Karngar-Lawrence are seriously engaged into internal political battle within the party with their motive of ensuring that Karngar-Lawrence becomes the running mate.
With the revelation from the Liberty Party Chair and the plan endorsement of Mr. Cummings, it is clear that the political tension is yet to be resolved anytime soon as the suspended party members have also resolved to continue the political battle.
