Liberians Will Be Liberated From Poverty -Cummings Vows; If Elected President

The political leader of the opposition Alternative National Congress, Alexander B. Cummings has vowed to uplift Liberians from poverty when elected President in the upcoming 2023 general and presidential elections.

Speaking on a local radio talk show, Mr Cummings narrated that he is going to create a situation where the economy will experience rapid economic growth and every Liberian will benefit.

The ANC political leader said Liberia is rich in resources therefore everyone should benefit and not only few government officials and their families.

According to Cummings, Liberia needs to be developed from the bottom and not the top as it is today. He echoed that the wealth of the state is not for benefiting only government officials and their families leaving the ordinary Liberians to suffer.

Cummings mentioned that only qualified people who want to change Liberia positively will be entrusted to join him work to better the lives of Liberians and not people who want to live a flamboyant life full of corruption.

When asked whether the Collaborating Political party (CPP) still exists, the business man turned politician said, the CPP is an idea which is to bring good governance and the idea still exists.

He disclosed that the ANC and the LP the last two parties left in the CPP will revisit the CPP’s framework document to make it possible for other like-minds interested political institutions to join the CPP to unseat the Weah-led government in the upcoming presidential elections to help reduce the suffering of the vast majority of the Liberian people.

“Our focus will be on investing in Agriculture and Eco- tourism “.

He promised that monies acquired from these investments will be used to build and rehabilitate roads and carry out infrastructural developments.

Cummings lamented that bad roads have caused development not to reach in most counties and has also caused a lot of losses to business people.

According to the Presidential aspirant, his government will also invest in Liberia’s businesses, train and develop the minds of the youth in the country which is one of the ways to develop any nation.

He indicated that his government will not discriminate against people in other political parties. “Every qualified Liberian will be given an opportunity and not only partisans of the ANC”, he said.

Cummings said President Weah has a track record of appointing Incompetent and unqualified people reason why Liberians are suffering and Liberia is where it is today.

Divulging into the current petroleum crisis, the ANC political leader disclosed that the increase in the prices of petroleum products are Global due to the war between Russia and Ukraine but the rate at which the prices increased in Liberia is the Government’s fault.

He proposed that tariffs and taxes levied on these products should be reduced by the government. He claimed the taxes have left the importers with no choice but to increase the petroleum products prices so as to enable them make profits.

Recently the prices of petroleum products increased from US$4.6 cents per gallon to US$5.97cents. The increment had affected goods and services on the Liberian market.

Meanwhile, former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has lauded the Political Leader of Alternative National Congress (ANC), Mr. Alexander Cummings for the invaluable contributions to the development and growth of the African businesses, especially, when he served as Managing Director of Coca-Cola Nigeria, Ltd.

Cummings served as Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer of Coca-Cola Global, with supervisory responsibility for Coca-Cola’s business across 200 countries worldwide.

He and the former Nigerian President, Mr. Obasanjo have a friendship that spanned over 25 years, when he first served in Nigeria with distinction.

President Obasanjo and the ANC Political Leader met recently in Nigeria where they rekindled and reflected on long and mutually rewarding friendships and also discussed issues of concerns in Liberia.

Their meeting took place on the eve of the Liberian Government dropping criminal charges against the ANC Political Leader, after nearly six months of ill-fated and politically motivated trial by the Monrovia City Court in Monrovia.

During the long hours meeting, President Obasanjo commanded Cummings for his contributions to Africa’s economic growth and development, which he said led to the creation of thousands of jobs, as well as support to small and medium businesses, and providing opportunities for women and young people, during his reign at Coco-Cola.

The former Nigerian President spoke of the dire need for competent and experienced leadership on the African Continent, and said Cummings, with such professional competence,  background and experience, he possess the best qualifications for leadership in Africa, encouraged and wished him success in his bid for the Presidency.

Mr. Obasanjo referenced Cummings’ strong reputation in the international community especially in the global corporate and business world and said, when elected president, Liberia will undoubtedly benefit from huge foreign investments, and job creation and improvements in the overall standard of living of the Liberian people.

Former President Obasanjo is widely acclaimed for returning the country to sustainable democratic order after nearly 14 years of brutal civil conflict that killed a quarter million of the Liberian population.

Earlier, the ANC Political Leader briefed President Obasanjo on the state of affairs and his intention to contest as President in the 2023 general elections.

Cummings who managed thousands of employees worldwide, with an operational budget of nearly one billion United States dollars, almost, twice the size of Liberia’s national budget, spoke of the enormous challenges to ensure free, fair and transparent elections in Liberia.

Cummings asked for increased international support and attention for Liberia, and briefed Obasanjo on his vision for inclusive government economic growth, long term security and sustainable peace and democracy upon his election as President of Liberia.
