Liberian News: The Legacy of Crozierville As A Tale Of Return, Resilience

Monrovia-Over the decades, the descendants of these Barbadian settlers have continued to honor their legacy. On the 160th anniversary of Crozierville’s founding, President Joseph Boakai of Liberia and President Sandra Mason of Barbados gathered in Crozierville to commemorate this shared history.

Their presence underscored the deep-rooted ties between the two nations and the enduring bond forged by the settlers’ journey.

President Boakai reflected on the significance of Crozierville, emphasizing that it symbolizes the unity between Africa and the Caribbean. He highlighted the contributions of Barbadian-Liberians, noting that figures like Presidents Arthur Barclay and Edwin Barclay, both of Barbadian descent, played pivotal roles in Liberia’s development.

President Mason echoed these sentiments, acknowledging the settlers’ courage and vision. She spoke of the spirit of Sankofa, a concept from the Akan tradition that teaches the importance of returning to one’s roots to move forward. She emphasized that Crozierville stands as a bridge between the Caribbean and Africa, a place where history meets possibility.

As the celebrations unfolded, the community of Croziervillecame together to honor their ancestors. Wreaths were laid at the Founders’ Monument, and stories of the pioneers were shared, ensuring that their legacy would continue to inspire future generations.

Today, Crozierville stands not only as a historical landmark but as a living testament to the strength and resilience of its founders. It serves as a reminder that the journey of the 346 Barbadian emigrants was not just a passage across the sea but a voyage towards identity, unity, and a shared future.
