Liberian News: Suspended NaFAA Boss Cries Foul

Monrovia. Madam Emma Metieh Glassco, the suspended Director General of the National Fisheries Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA), is roaring against the treatment meted at her by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai relative to her suspension or dismissal without investigation.

Monrovia. Madam Emma Metieh Glassco, the suspended Director General of the National Fisheries Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA), is roaring against the treatment meted at her by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai relative to her suspension or dismissal without investigation.

Commenting on her suspension or dismissal by the President for the first time in a social media post at the weekend, Madam Glasscobelieved the action taken against her is nothing short of a political conspiracy and a complete disservice to the bountiful contributions made to the country and people.

She said she was not subjected to any form of investigation prior to the suspension or dismissal action by the President, stressing “So I am dismissed without a cause.”

The suspended NaFAA boss weathered the storm of removal of others from their tenured positions in the early days of the administration, but could not sustain her run any further amid series of troubling events at the entity including allegations of corruption, dictatorial tendencies, employees’ revolt against her authority and calls for her dismissal.

Recall that President Boakai suspended Madam Glassco on February 13, 2025 follows a recommendation from the NaFAA Board of Directors citing managerial and financial inefficiencies.

An Executive Mansion release at the time indicated the Ministry of Justice and the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) had been instructed to initial an investigation of Madam Glassco.

The President’s action was in with Section 3.9.2 of the Act establishing NaFAA, which empowers the Board to make disciplinary recommendations against officials accused of mismanagement, the statement said.

Suspending the NaFAA boss, the Liberian leader referenced a separate recommendation from the Office of the Ombudsman, which advised her suspension due to allegations of insulting behavior during an official investigation meeting.

The Ombudsman deemed this conduct inappropriate for a public official and cited Section 11.10 of the Code of Conduct Act as the basis for its recommendation.

The latter part of her administration was marred by turbulence to the extent where the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority Workers Association (NaFAAWA) issued a vote of no confidence in Glassco in May 2024.

The workers union alleged dictatorial leadership style and disparities in salaries and marked it with a three-day go-slow protest in July.
