Kpakutahum, a region in Lofa County comprising three towns—Somalahum, Majortahun, and Ndambu—has successfully resolved a longstanding generational dispute. For many years, these communities were divided over various disagreements. However, through a recent peace conference, unity has been restored.
The “Kpakutahun Peace Conference” brought together hundreds of citizens from the three towns, including their chiefs: Chief NdorbogGongolee of Ndambu, Chief John Borley of Somalahum, and Chief Mmomo Ndorbah of Majortahun.
This historic gathering which was held in Ndambu, marked the first time in many years that residents from all three towns sat together to address their differences. The conference, which ran from February 27 to March 2, 2025, provided a platform for the town chiefs, youth and women groups, and traditional elders to openly discuss the causes of the conflict and find a resolution.
Recognizing the urgency of reconciliation, Mr. Alpha Gongolee, a prominent son of Ndanbu, alongside other citizens, organized the dialogue, aimed at fostering understanding and resolving the longstanding differences. explain
During the event, Mr. Goodia Alfa Gongoleeemphasized the importance of peace, encouraging the people to maintain harmony. He shared that his inspiration for promoting peace stemmed from his experiences abroad, where he observed some of his colleague going back home to unite their people. “Unity is the only way forward,” he stated.
During the conference, teachers and health care workers also had the opportunity to voice their concerns about the difficulties they faced in carrying out their duties. Education and health services in the region had been negatively impacted by the divisions within the community.
A key aspect of the conference was a counseling session facilitated by Miss. Rose Borlay and Mr. Sando kollie. This session aimed to reshape the residents’ perspectives on peace and provided social counseling to help the community heal from past grievances.
In a powerful and symbolic moment, all chiefs and elders, speaking in their native Gbandidialect, publicly agreed to set aside their differences and work together for the greater good of their communities. This commitment marked a turning point in the history of Kpakutahum, as leaders and residents alike pledged to foster peace, cooperation, and development.
Kpakutahum, located in Kolahun District, LofaCounty, within Electoral District #3, has now set a strong example for other communities facing similar challenges. The successful resolution of this dispute demonstrates the power of dialogue, collaboration, and shared commitment to a peaceful future.
There was a traditional talent display by the local people, signifying their joy over the reconciliation, and cows, along with other animals, were slaughtered as part of the celebration.
With the conclusion of the Kpakutahum Peace Conference, the people of Somalahum, Majortahun, and Ndambu have taken a critical step toward lasting reconciliation, paving the way for a more united and prosperous future in Lofa County.
