Monrovia– Former Solicitor General of Liberia, Cllr. Sayma Syrenius Cephus, found himself in the spotlight on Monday after officers of the Liberia National Police (LNP) pulled him over on 10th Street, Sinkor, for driving a vehicle with expired documents.

According to police sources, the vehicle, reportedly owned by the former official of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) government, lacked a rear license plate a violation that prompted officers to pursue and stop the car. Subsequent checks revealed that the vehicle’s registration documents had expired since April of this year.

Speaking to journalists shortly after the incident, Cllr. Cephusdescribed the officers as “hungry,” implying that the stop was not only unwarranted but also motivated by desperation.

“The police are hungry he looks hungry, can’t you see?” Cephusremarked in frustration, suggesting he was being unfairly targeted while en route to what he described as an important meeting.

The Liberia National Police has, in recent weeks, intensified efforts to crack down on motorists including lawmakers and former officials operating vehicles with expired documentation. Authorities say the law applies equally to all and that enforcement is part of a broader campaign to ensure public safety and compliance.

Despite Cephus’s protest, the LNP has maintained that the former Solicitor General was treated according to standard procedure.

As of now, there has been no official statement from Cephusregarding whether he intends to contest the citation issued.
