Liberian News: “I Hope The Senate Will Not Confirm Him”
…Source Speak Of Mohammed Dukuly’s Past Corruption Allegations, Appointment To UAE Mission
Monrovia-Multiple sources are calling on the Liberian Senate not to confirm Mr. Mohammed Dukuly for his past reported corruption allegations which he is yet to clear his name.
They are requesting that the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs do a more extensive investigation into the name that was sent to them from the office of the President as Liberia’s ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, a Country in the Middle East.
Mr. Mohammed Kukuly was dismissed during the Gyude Bryant administration for reportedly misapplying Liberia’s Maritime fund in the tune of 700,000 euro about US$900,000 at the time he served as Liberia’s Permanent Representative to the IOM, an allegation that he has not cleared his name from.
He and the former Marine boss, J.D. Slanger were charged with “Economic Sabotage” since the reported acts we committed in 2005.
It can be recorded that in 2005, Liberia`s transitional government offered a $10,000-reward to anyone providing information that would lead to the arrest of Mohammed Dukuly and J.D. Slanger.
Other accounts of their reported misappropriation say the two former officials of the country’s Maritime Bureau were dismissed for allegedly stealing US$3.5 million of state funds while others say it was some 700,000 euro about US$900,000.
A source who asked for anonymity said that since the allegations against Mr. Dukuly, he left Liberia and has been living in the United States of America under religious accommodation. When the source was asked about the truthfulness of the information, she said, “My brother, I am saying that man is here with us in Philadelphia, USA as an Islamic Iman.”
The source said, “This is someone I know very well and he knows me like that.” Another source only identified as John Flomo (not his real name) said, “Mohammed is currently in Monrovia lobbying and waiting to be confirmed by the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee. Since you are a journalist, follow up with this information I am giving you.”
He furthered, “That is why some of us don’t believe in this old man Boakai stewardship of power because he wants for alleged corrupted people to represent Liberia internationally not to talk about that new mission in the UAE.”
“Sometimes I wonder what is the role of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sara Beysolow Nyanti in picking representatives of Liberia to these kinds of missions. Although I am not a foreign service person or diplomat, in my opinion, before such an important position is given out, investigations should be conducted as to who is being appointed” Flomo said.
He furthered, “To have allowed the President Boakai to appoint a man who reportedly corrupted our country of needed resources is something I am yet to understand.”
The sources said now that the president has performed his duty as having the appointing power, the challenge is now put at the feet of the Liberian Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs headed by Senators Abraham Darius Dillon and Saah and H. Joseph.
One of them said, “We voted for our Lawmakers to make the right decisions for the common good of our nation, seeking the best interests of Liberia and its citizens and this is one of the decisions that they need to wisely take before the name of the country is put in the mud outside.”
