Liberia News: Yekeh Again!

Liberia-The life and power of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, J. Fonati Koffa is at stake as a member of that body has threatened to take his life.

Speaker Koffa and some members of the House of Representatives have been in an endless battle for supremacy as to who stays or goes as first among equals of that august body.

Rep. Koffa was elected by his colleagues to serve as Speaker of the House of Representatives for six years but he has been at the edge of his seat since some 43 of his colleagues started signing a petition to have him removed as Speaker of that august body.

On the other hand, there are 30 other lawmakers who have stood their grounds and have promised not to resign stating that the constitution should prevail.

Rep. Yekeh Y. Kolubah is among those who have stood with the Grand Kru County District Two Representative as he fights for survival.

Since the stalemate at the House of Representatives started, the Montserrado County District #10 lawmaker pledged his unflinching support to stand with Speaker Koffa in the power struggle at that branch of the Liberian Government.

The Montserrado County lawmaker has on many occasions stated that he stands to protect the laws of Liberia and not because of Speaker Koffa but because he did not vote for him as Speaker of that body.

In one of his many interviews, Kolubah said, “Koffa is a Counselor, a veteran lawyer so, if a veteran lawyer disrespects the law, it means they should disband him. He does not worth to be a Counselor. He should go by the constitution and let the people get the number to remove him.”

He added, “Any attempt, any attempt for this short man to resign, his family people will wear black.”

The Montserrado District 10 lawmaker has repeatedly issued death threats on the Speaker of the House of Representatives, but the House Speaker nor his officer has said anything about the life-threatening statements that have been issued by the lawmaker.
