Liberia-A day after the resignation of Liberty Party embattled Chairman Musa Bility, the party has announced the appoint of Montserrado County District#1 Representative, RugieYartu Barry as the LP Acting Chair.But where does her appointment lead the party that has endured consistent conflicts and fractures is the question being asked in many political quarters.
This announcement according to a statement from the Party Secretary General (SG) Martin Kollah, is in consistent with Liberty Party’s Constitution, which the Vice Chairperson for Administration and principal deputy to the National Chairman takes over.
Rep. RugieYartu Barry has automatically assumed the position as National Chairperson of the party. Barry’s chairmanship is coming at a time the party has initiated a national reconciliation process currently ongoing through a Joint Reconciliation Committee (JRC) setup by both the former Chairman Musa Hassan Bility and Political Leader, Senate Pro-tempore NyonbleeKangar Lawrence.
The JRC is nearing the conclusion of phase one of its task, which constitutes signing of a resolution to guide the LP nationwide reconciliation process.
“The Liberty Party wants to assure all partisans/supporters and well-wishers that LP will continue to work through the Joint Reconciliation Committee under the Chairmanship of Rep. RugieYartu Barry to conclude the reconciliation process and take the party to a special national convention as being proposed by the JRC.”
“The National Secretariat will continue to update partisans and the general public on ongoing progress of the reconciliation process while keeping the hopes and aspirations of our great party alive,” the release concluded.
