Liberia News: ‘UP Govt Came to Power by Accident’

…CDC’s Kowo Asserts

Liberia-The National Chairman of the opposition Coalition for Democratic Change Janga Kowo has disclosed that the ruling Unity Party led government came to power by accident/ error.

“Their coming to power was an error. You people thought that they have learned from their twelve years’ mistakes, but they have failed miserably in just under one year,” he claimed.

Serving as guest speaker at the third National emergency convention of the opposition Movement for Economic Empowerment (MOVEE) Mr. Kowo alleged that under one year, the ruling Unity Party failed to live up to its promises to the Liberian people, something he said is a clear demonstration of the Party’s alleged inability to lead.

“UP has no plan to move the Country forward, all of their endeavors they have embarked upon ranging from the issue of the 22m road, to the 200 buses, 285 yellow machines and up to the 25m scholarships among others are clear indications that the UP government failed the people and they have no plan to move the Country forward,” he re-emphasized.

However, the ruling party is on record for running its government under the plan pillar of the “ARREST” Agenda, but Mr. Kowo has since claimed and maintained that the ruling establishment has no plan to move the country forward.

According to him, the ruling government came to power due to some circumstances which he did not mention but reechoed and claimed that they don’t have the mantle of authority to govern.

Speaking further, he also made reference to the current impasse at the National Legislature, indicating that such a situation is gradually taking the country into a constitutional crisis.

“The UP government is bent on violating the constitution which they promise to uphold evidence of siding with the quote and unquote majority block at the House by providing security for the majority block speaker even though they are in flagrant violation of the constitution of Liberia”, he also alleged.

This, plus many he maintained, is a clear demonstration that the government is not allegedly ready to govern.

The CDC Chairman at the same time pointed at some human rights violations under one year of the Unity Party’s regime as the alleged killings of innocent citizens at Kinjor in Grand Cape Mount County as well as the illegal eviction of the CDC’s headquarters on August 5 and 20, 2024 respectively.

He used the occasion to rally other opposition parties, including MOVEE, to work hard together capitalized on the mistakes of the governing Unity Party, in order for them to boot the UP out of power in 2029 in a democratic manner and form.

“However, this will require planning something that you have already started as such, I want to commend you all for this great initiative”, he added.

Kowo told MOVEE partisans that the National political discourse will be stronger once the constituents’ members are also strong.
