Monrovia-The Liberian Senate has passed into law a Bill establishing the National Tourism Authority.
The law gives ground for the Tourism Department at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) to be extracted and given autonomy.
If concurred by the House of Repealing, the National Tourism Authority will be a separate and autonomous body that will initiate, supervise, regulate and promote tourism programs in Liberia.
Since the establishment of Liberia, the National Tourism has been under the authority of the Ministry of Information, Cultural and Tourism but advocates have been pushing for the tourism industry to go autonomous.
Their efforts is now yelding positive result under the Joseph Nyuma Boakai administration as the Legislature is taking the appropriate measures for the tourism industry under MICAT to become autonomous.
